Privacy Policy

What Home Pest Health collects when you use HomePestHealth.com, why we collect it, and who else sees it.

Effective

The short version

  • You can use the whole site without giving us your name or phone number.
  • Your survey answers stay in your browser, unless you send them with a request for a pro.
  • We use Google Analytics to see how people use the site. You can opt out with Google's browser add-on or by blocking cookies.
  • If you ask for a pro, we send your name and phone number to one local pest control company.
  • Some of our links are affiliate links, so we may earn a commission when you buy.

In this policy, "we" and "us" mean Home Pest Health. "You" means anyone who uses the site.

What we collect

Things you give us

  • ZIP codes you look up, so we can show pest risk data for that area.
  • Your answers to our home survey. They stay in your browser, as explained below.
  • Your name, phone number, pest concern, and timing, if you ask a pro to contact you.

Things we collect as you use the site

  • The pages you view and what you do on them, through the analytics tools described below.
  • Your IP address and basic browser details. Every website gets these when your browser loads a page.
  • Basic request logs, which our host, Cloudflare, keeps for up to 7 days.

We don't ask for your email address, and we don't take payments.

How we use it

We use this info to:

  • show pest risk data and grades for your home
  • remember your answers and home ZIP code in your browser, so you don't have to start over
  • send your request to a pest control pro, if you ask for one
  • see which pages and tools people use, so we can improve the site
  • keep the site running and block bots and abuse

We don't use it to target ads at you.

What your browser stores

Our site saves a few things in your browser's storage, not on our servers:

  • your survey answers and progress
  • your home location (ZIP code, city, state, and county)
  • your last five ZIP code searches
  • your light or dark display setting
  • for the current visit only, campaign tags from the link that brought you here (like utm_source) and a few site settings

You can clear this data with Start over on the survey, Remove location on your location card, or Clear on recent searches. Your survey answers don't leave your browser unless you send a request for a pro. We do send campaign tags to Google Analytics with each page view.

Cookies and analytics

Our own code doesn't set cookies. The cookies on our site come from Google Analytics and from our host, Cloudflare.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to count visits and see how people use the site. When you load a page, your browser sends Google:

  • the page's address and title (on some pages, like our ZIP code pages, these include a ZIP code, city, and state)
  • the site or campaign link that sent you here
  • your browser, device type, screen size, and language
  • your rough location, which Google works out from your IP address
  • what you do on the page, like scrolling, starting a form, or clicking a link to another site
  • our own events, like starting the survey, viewing a grade, or clicking a product

In the events we write ourselves, we cut ZIP codes to the first three digits. We never send Google your name, phone number, or survey answers.

Google signals, the setting that ties this data to Google accounts, is off. We also haven't linked Google Analytics to Google Ads. Google says Analytics doesn't log or store your IP address (details).

Google Analytics sets a cookie named _ga and one that starts with _ga_. They tell Google whether you've visited before.

Cloudflare

Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page views and measures how fast our pages load. It doesn't set cookies, and Cloudflare says it doesn't track you across other websites.

Cloudflare also checks for bots. It may set a cookie named cf_clearance to remember that your browser passed.

Requests for a pest control pro

In some ZIP codes, you can ask a local pest control pro to contact you about a free inspection. If you send that form, we collect:

  • your name and phone number
  • your pest concern and how soon you need help
  • your ZIP code, city, and state
  • your risk level and any survey answers saved in your browser
  • the address of the page you sent it from

We send your request to one pest control company that serves your ZIP code. We call them "the pro" here. Your request goes to:

  • The pro. We send them everything listed above except the page address.
  • Our team. We keep a record of each request so we can follow up on it.
  • Our service providers. The companies listed in the next section carry and store it for us.

The pro uses your phone number to contact you about your request. After that, the pro's own privacy policy covers what they do with your info. We may get paid for sending your request to a pro.

We don't send you texts or marketing emails. We only text the pro. To stop calls or texts from the pro, tell the pro. If you need the pro's contact details, email us and we'll send them.

Who we share info with

We share your info only in these cases:

  • The pro you asked for, as described above.
  • Service providers that run tools for us. They handle your info to do that work.
  • When the law requires it, like a court order, or to protect someone's safety.
  • If we sell or merge the business. Your info may pass to the new owner.

Our service providers:

  • Cloudflare hosts our site, stores requests for a pro, and runs the analytics and bot check above.
  • Google runs Google Analytics and some of the tools our team uses.
  • Messaging services that send your request to the pro and let our team know about it.

We don't share your info with anyone else for their own marketing.

Your choices and rights

  • Clear your browser data. Use the buttons listed above, or clear this site's data in your browser settings.
  • Block analytics. Use Google's opt-out add-on, block cookies, or use a content blocker.
  • See, fix, or delete your request. Email us, and we'll reply within 45 days. To make sure the request is yours, we may ask you to confirm some details about it.

Deleting our copy doesn't delete the pro's copy. To remove your info from the pro's records, ask the pro.

Some states, like California, Colorado, and Virginia, give residents extra privacy rights. We offer the choices above to everyone, wherever you live, and we won't treat you differently for using them.

How we respond to Do Not Track

Some browsers can send a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal. Our site doesn't change anything when it gets one, so Google Analytics still runs. To stop it, use Google's opt-out add-on or block cookies.

Google and Cloudflare, through the tools above, are the only outside companies that collect info about your visits to our site. Google Analytics can tell when you come back over time. We don't use ad networks or other trackers that follow you from site to site.

How long we keep it

  • Browser storage stays until you clear it. Campaign tags and site settings clear when you close the tab.
  • Google Analytics deletes detailed event data after two months. It keeps data about a returning visitor until 14 months after their last visit. Summary reports, like total page views, don't expire.
  • Cookies from Google Analytics last up to two years. Cloudflare's cf_clearance cookie can stay in your browser for up to a year.
  • Requests for a pro stay until you ask us to delete them. We don't delete them on a set schedule. Copies can also stay in messages about your request, and in backups for up to 30 days after we delete it.
  • Request logs for our server last up to 7 days, and then Cloudflare deletes them.

Security

We use HTTPS across the site and encrypt stored requests. Only the pro and our team can see your name and phone number.

Children

Home Pest Health is for adults. We don't knowingly collect info from children under 13. If you think a child sent us their info, email us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll post the new version on this page and update the effective date at the top.
